Who is Joshua Alan Burgin-Eaton?
I am a student, filmmaker, foodie, foreign exchange student, and entrepreneur! I was born in a small town of about 500, including the cows, approximately 21 years ago! At the age of 14, I fell in love with French cinema during my viewing of my first Truffaut film. At the time, I knew I wanted to be a filmmaker in France one day. I began pursuing French classes in high school and my love for all things French kept growing. When I graduated from high school, I moved to the Nashville, TN area to attend MTSU as an Electronic Media Production(Radio/TV Production) major, they have an amazing program! Upon entering, I promised myself I would study abroad in France one day. During the 2010/11 academic year, my promise was be kept. I attended l’Université de Caen Basse-Normandie for a full academic year and am now a double major in EMP and French.
Studying abroad in Normandy was absolutely the best experience of my life. I lived with the most amazing host parents and host siblings, I still keep in contact with them. My family is very passionate about their food and they shared many of their recipes and ideas with me during my time there. They introduced me to dishes, vegetables, and methods of cooking that I had never know! Now, I pass along my knowledge through my blog to you.
Upon entering college, I had to start cooking for myself in a 3-feet wide campus apartment kitchen. It was there that I began the spark that has turned into a raging fire of passion for cooking, especially baking. This past January, I made a resolution to try one new thing each day in the kitchen and blog about it. Today, my blog is read by incredible people, like you, all over the world. Since beginning this crazy journey, I have found my niche in baking/cake decorating. I now own my own business, and after an inspirational meeting with Michelle Bommarito(Food Network Challenge), I have decided culinary arts is where my future lies. After I complete my degree at MTSU, I will be returning to the country of my dreams, France, to begin my studies in the culinary arts. My ultimate goal is to one day own my own thriving bakery!
Our purpose in life is to live, not do the same thing EVERY day. I love exploring new foods, I was a VERY picky eater as a child – I half expect an “AMEN” from my mother when I say that! Do one new thing each day in your life, culinary or not, and I promise you will be just a little but happier!
